Congratulations to the newly weds! I am one of the billion watchers from all over the world who eagerly watched the exchange of vows of the most famous couple of the century--Prince William and Kate Middleton. I actually was teary eyed while I watch Kate walk down the aisle and when she and Prince William walked on the aisle for the first time as husband and wife. It was a really touching experience although I only saw it on television.
Perhaps the most awaited reveal of the wedding is the designer of Kate's dress. Well, lo and behold, it was Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen! The dress is reminiscent of Grace Kelly's wedding dress--classy and not as grand as everybody expected it to be--but, nevertheless, seeing her in a McQueen dress is an unforgettable moment in fashion and it will surely be on the list of the most iconic dresses of all time. Her shoes are by McQueen, too. And, Queen Elizabeth II is so gracious to lent her the 1936 Cartier tiara.
Robert Hooke's discovery of the cell in 1665 was one of man's greatest discovery. Although his discovery was of plant cells, it opened the gates for scientists like Kolliker, Altman and Benda to discover the mitochondrion; Brown who discovered the nucleus; the DNA by Miescher; how the cell multiplies via mitosis by W.Flemming; up to the first isolation of embryonic stem cells in 1981. Cell isolation is probably the most widely researched technique today because of its many scientific applications particularly in the detection of human genetic disorders and cloning. The latter is perhaps the most controversial discovery following stem cell isolation. Man will always be fascinated with how living things live and this fascination is the fuel that drives scientists to greater discoveries to improve human life.
If you are one of the millions who await the kissing of Prince William and Kate on the altar, sorry, they won't kiss. Apparently, it is not customary in England churches. When Prince Charles and Princess Diana wed, the world also did not witness any kissing, but, they did kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. And it will happen again on Prince William and Kate's wedding.
After a year in space, the five-person team on board the Beagle are getting ready to land on Mars. The landing, like everything else that follows, does not go smoothly but it does get the astronauts there in one piece. Within the first few weeks there, they have found a gemstone that is harder than a diamond and microorganisms that prove there is life on the red planet. The astronauts are elated by their discovery of life on Mars but on Earth, hysteria sets in, fanned by a popular writer and a televangelist. They fear that the astronauts will bring back some pandemic disease to earth. A fuel line leakage leaves them stranded on Mars and the president, who is up for reelection, is not pushing a rescue mission. This means that the five stranded Americans will have to find a way to get themselves off planet or die when their air and food runs out. Robert Zubrin has written a science ficti…
Menudo is one of my grandmother's specialties. My fondest memory involving menudo is when I was still in grade school. We live just a few blocks away from school and during lunch break, I would go home to eat lunch since I am saving my day's allowance. One time, she cooked menudo and it wasn't what I would like to have for lunch. She didn't want to prepare other meal because it was already late so she insisted that I eat what was served. Being a stubborn young girl that I was, I spooned the menudo's sauce and slathered it over my plate for it to look like I ate lunch. I wasn't caught and it still remains a secret until now that I am sharing you the story. It was a bad move on my part because I starved and ended up spending my day's allowance. Menudo is a Mexican-Spanish dish typically made of pork or tripe stew seasoned with chili peppers. It is one of the famous Filipino stew dishes. Having colonized by the Spaniards for more than 300 hundred years, it is n…
Seeing old friends and discovering new places thrill me.
I have many friends who now live in other countries and meeting them in some place always gives me the jitters. I have three best friends in college that I only get to see whenever one comes home from Australia. I actually find it odd to meet them only once when the two are just two towns away from mine. Distance makes the heart grown fonder... and that is true in our case.
I remember many summers ago, I went to Puerto Galera for a vacation together with some friends. It was my first time to go to the place and the first time that I will be away from home for a week. I swear, I wasn't able to sleep the whole night preparing for my things and thinking about all the things I could do in Puerto Galera.
It was a thrilling experience and it was the best summer vacation ever.
So, now I am thinking of going to the place again.
I have been craving for Country Side's special sizzling gravy since last night. Just thinking about it makes me salivate.
To finally end my craving, I had a lunch date with my son. I ordered sizzling crispy chicken, that is good enough for two, cold iced tea and extra fried rice.
While waiting for our order, he, as usual, played with his Bob the Builder toys.
For just a little over one hundred pesos, we're so full. I am so recommending the restaurant.
I went to a certain office last week for a business proposal and I saw a familiar face inside my prospect's office. Apparently, he's an old friend, well, (clearing throat) a childhood sweetheart. He asked me if I could still remember him and I said yes and gave him a smile. This part is where all my blood flushed on my cheeks, and I wasn't prepared. He introduced me to everyone inside the room that we used to be in a relationship and that we were both so in love with each other. After my brief, but seemed like forever, discussion with my prospect, the guy offered me to accompany me downstairs towards the parking lot. I refused but he insisted. While going down, he asked me several questions that I briefly answered. "Do you live in the same place?" "Yes." "Are you married?" "No." "I went to your house years ago but your brother told me you were not there. Did he tell you?" "I don't have a brother." "Maybe he's…
I like dogs and birds and fishes but surprisingly, I do not own any. I used to have a puppy which I named Jimmy because he is so tiny and cute like Jimminy Cricket of Pinocchio but after just a week of taking care of him, he mysteriously disappeared. After days of looking for him, I discovered that he was hit and run by a neighbor and they did not even tell me about it. I felt sad and angry, really. And now hearing the news about 100 dogs being slaughtered in Canada is something that gives me the creeps. I pity those poor dogs. What is even more surprising is that the one who allegedly slaughtered them is the one who used to take care of them.
My favorite Manga character is Doraemon. I just love how he pulls out nifty gadgets from his fourth dimensional pocket, his bamboo-copter, the anywhere door, clothes changing camera and his words of wisdom for Nobita. My son has learned to love Doraemon, too. He's just too adorable for words, don't you think? I would just like to share with you the unofficial ending of the Doreamon series. There are actually three unofficial endings but this one is the best, the most touching and heartwarming of them all. This made me teary eyed a bit.
It made me wish to have someone from the future to guide me today.
He has given me another chance to wake up and see how soundly my son sleeps beside me,
He has given me another chance to go to the office and back home safely,
He has given me a chance to conduct free circumcision to young indigent boys around town,
He has given me another chance to chat with officemates over lunch,
He has given me a chance to listen to my favorite music (something that I missed doing in a long while),
He always give me reasons to face the day with courage, enthusiasm and optimism.
Have you found your soulmate? Here are the signs that you have found him/her. 1. When you're together you feel like you've come home. 2. You feel like your partnership was meant to be, as if kissed by destiny. 3. In your communication with each other there is a rapid "knowing" of what each of you means. 4. You have a shared mission in life, perhaps a cause, a career, or the creation of a family life. 5. When you're together the world seems like a better place. 6. Your mood is elevated when you're together. It's not necessarily passion or excitement, although that's there too at times. 7. When you look at him/her you see a part of yourself that's been missing. Perhaps it's her assertiveness or his joy of adventure. But it's something that when added to your life, makes you feel more complete. 8. Being together makes you more hopeful about the future you are creating. 9. You can be more authentic and fully yourself around your partner. 10. Being toget…
I am so going to watch this movie! I missed part 1 and I swear I will never miss part 2. I could not wait for the movie to be shown in the Philippines. I do hope my aunt will get me a DVD of the part 1.
In the mean time, enjoy watching Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules teaser trailer.
Everyday is a challenge for me. I raise a child solo, budget my finances, pay the bills, fix things in the house... everything. I basically do everything all by myself and ending the day right is challenge enough for me. If ever I fail to end the day happily, I don't consider it as failure, just temporary setbacks or a time to reflect if where I am going and what I am doing is what I really wanted in life.
I had a dream last night about a building collapsing with me and some other co-workers inside it.
We're cleaning up some rooms at the first floor while construction men, well, do their job in other parts of the building particularly the third floor. After hours of cleaning, my co-workers and I decided to call it a day and get our things at the third floor. When we got there, the building started to tilt and in just a few seconds, everything collapsed. None in the group got hurt as the floor we're standing on wasn't damaged, in fact, it slid down a slope while we still hold on to dear life. At the end of a downhill ride, we found ourselves on a lake. I saw some of my co-workers crying and calling for help.
******************** To dream of cleaning, according to Dream Moods, implies you are overcoming major obstacles in life. You are moving ahead toward a new stage in your life. To see a building in a dream is to see the self. How high you are in the building represents your …
